Chenôve. The urban park, which has been planned for years, has now become a reality.

Chenôve. The urban park, which has been planned for years, has now become a reality.

The urban park, which Chenôve Mayor Thierry Falconnet wanted to create during his first term as mayor in 2015, will open on Saturday, May 24. On Thursday, May 15, just over a week before its inauguration, visitors were able to see the project come to life.

Anyone who knew the area well a few years ago can hardly avoid getting lost today... Undertaken as part of the New National Urban Renewal Programme (NPNRU) and the development of the new central area, the development work on Chenôve Park is almost complete.

Framed by the historic buildings of the Saint-Exupéry district and recent real estate developments, this urban park spreads its almost 2 hectares of vegetation in place of the shopping center, closed in 2018 , of which nothing remains.

Inexhaustible on the subject, landscaper Pascale Jacotot, who guided the design of the project, indicates that "across the entire site, there are 25,000 plants, 500 standard trees and 850 to 900 different species, mainly botanical. The slab [built in the 1970s to cover underground parking lots, editor's note] was 14,000 square meters; we gained 4,000 square meters in open ground: 70% of the site is planted and 30% is dedicated to children's games or social spaces." A picnic area is also present in the open ground section.

With Élodie Bonnotte, project manager at Splaad (the local public company for the development of the Dijon metropolitan area), Pascale Jacotot explains that the transformation of the site was carried out in consultation with residents , excluding technical matters. "There was a year of public consultation. Sixty-five meetings, thirty of which were in participatory consultation with residents. There were workshops with the Project Center, for example concerning social areas, water management, parking and parking, biodiversity. There were also dedicated meetings, such as those at the Senior Citizens' Center or with children at specific times. Other meetings were aimed at residents living near private buildings or those belonging to social housing. All these discussions had a direct impact on the project, including the idea of closing off the park and keeping only five of the fifteen planned entrances at a certain time."

It is now the turn of the residents to take possession of the premises, the name of which will be revealed on Saturday, May 24, at the start of the activities planned for the entire weekend on the occasion of the inauguration (read elsewhere) .

Please note The park will be open year-round from 7 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. from March 15 to September 30 and from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. in winter.
