A big change for renewable energy producers. Until now, this was not possible

A big change for renewable energy producers. Until now, this was not possible

Connecting RES to the grid on a commercial basis is carried out on the basis of energy law.

The procedures applied by Energa-Operator in the case of commercial connection agreements assume the connection of the producer if it is ready to bear the costs related to the expansion of the network, to the extent required to implement the connection.

Energa CEO: Commercial connection procedures have been prepared to guarantee equal treatment for producers

Energa-Operator announced that it will enable renewable energy producers to connect installations on commercial terms also in cases where investments in the high-voltage network are required.

The company, indicating that it has also introduced the possibility of commercial connection of, among others, energy storage facilities, announced that the new rules for commercial connections will be effective from May 19, 2025.

Sławomir Staszak, President of the Management Board of Energa , quoted in the press release, explains that the expansion of distribution networks is carried out based on the development plan approved by URE, which translates into the level of tariffs for customers.

It explains that when this plan does not include an investment that could create the missing connection potential for RES in a given location and a negative decision has been issued, the law allows for the connection of RES on a market basis.

- Energa-Operator, our distribution company, has prepared commercial connection procedures for producers, guaranteeing equal treatment. Now we are extending them to the high-voltage network - says Sławomir Staszak.

President of Energa-Operator: We want to develop the commercial connection procedure because it is beneficial

Robert Świerzyński, CEO of Energa-Operator , quoted in the press release, says that the company wants to develop the commercial connection procedure "because it is beneficial both for investors in renewable energy sources and for recipients who finance the energy transformation by paying their bills every month."

- I believe that the approach to commercial connections that we are implementing will accelerate the transformation process, making it more flexible, but also democratic - says Robert Świerzyński.

He also states that what the company is doing "would not have happened if not for the Energy Market workshops with renewable energy producers initiated by the President of URE and organized by PTPiREE".

- This is where the agreements that we are implementing today were made - says Robert Świerzyński.

Energa-Operator - an Energa subsidiary, which is itself controlled by Orlen - operates in northern and central Poland, in an area of approx. 75,000 square kilometres. It supplies electricity to approx. 3.4 million customers .
