PERN will once again lay a pipeline by drilling under the river

PERN will once again lay a pipeline by drilling under the river

This is part of the multi-year "HDD Transition Program", which involves the reconstruction of key sections of the transmission network . The aim is to improve the safety, reliability and efficiency of the entire system, as well as environmental protection and resistance to extreme weather phenomena - we read in the PERN announcement.

The key technology used in the program is HDD (Horizontal Directional Drilling) – a trenchless drilling method that allows for the installation of pipelines under the ground without the need to dig up the area. This makes it possible to implement investments even in difficult hydrological and geological conditions - emphasizes the company.

- The use of HDD technology minimizes interference in the terrain, enables drilling under water obstacles and inaccessible areas in almost any ground conditions - explains Katarzyna Krakowska, specialist from the Investment and Modernization Team at PERN. - Such solutions enable trenchless construction of installations in a short time, and are also pro-ecological - she adds.

The new section of the pipeline will be almost 900 meters long, of which the longer part will be made using the HDD method . The remaining several dozen meters will be built in an open trench, mainly on agricultural land and meadows. The reason for conducting this type of work is the changes in the bottom of the riverbeds.

- This program is not only a response to the challenges related to energy security and climate change, but also brings real savings by reducing future maintenance and repair costs - emphasizes PERN President Daniel Świętochowski.

So far, the program has modernized sections under the Lesiska Sompolno Bagno, the Żerański Canal in Nieporęt, the Noteć River in Pturk, and Bagno Stare. Work is also underway under the Bzura in Sochaczew, the Mołtawa River in Mąkolin, and Bagno Bogusławice. Investments are also being prepared under the Vistula River in the Płock area, as well as two sections under the Narew River.
