The gas pipeline from Greece to Bulgaria is being expanded. Capacity will increase significantly.

The gas pipeline operator Interconnector Greece-Bulgaria (ICGB) has received permission to modernise the gas metering station in Stara Zagora, Bulgaria, as part of a project to increase capacity from 3 to 5 billion m3 per year.
The ICGB has received a construction permit for the expansion of the ICGB gas pipeline from 3 to 5 billion cubic meters of gas per year. The permit was issued by the Bulgarian Ministry of Regional Development and Public Works and concerns the modernization of the measuring station, the press release reads.
It will be possible to install equipment for gas filtration and heating, as well as to expand the reduction and measurement station in Stara Zagora.
Negotiations with financial institutions regarding the financing and expansion of the interconnector are also underway . Initial offers will be accepted until September 2025, with binding bids until summer 2026.
The total length of the gas pipeline from the Greek terminal to Bulgarian customers is 182 km. Of the current capacity, 1 billion cubic meters is reserved under a long-term contract for gas imports from Azerbaijan.
