CMPC aims to produce 5 million tons of cellulose in 2025

Chilean group is the 3rd largest producer in the sector in the world; the largest factory in Latin America is located in Guaíba, RS
CMPC's CEO, Antônio Lacerda, stated that the Chilean group intends to produce up to 5 million tons of cellulose this year, a figure 25% higher than the group's average annual production.
Almost all of this production will take place in Guaíba, in Rio Grande do Sul, where the company's largest factory is located. “This is more than an idea, it is a project already under development in Brazil, where CMPC's global pulp production is located,” he said during his talk at Sul Export, this Monday (28).
“CPMC is, in fact, moving the center of its business from Chile to Brazil. This is a fact, it is part of the company’s strategy,” he said, pointing out that the taxes paid by the company in the country contribute to 75 municipalities, in addition to the fact that 40% of its territory used in Brazil is in preserved areas. “This is the largest sustainability project in Rio Grande do Sul,” he emphasized.
The director took advantage of his presentation to talk about BioCMPC, a modernization and sustainability project for the CMPC unit in Guaíba, Rio Grande do Sul, launched in 2021 and completed in 2024. With an investment of approximately R$2.75 billion, it is, in his words, “considered the largest private sustainability project in the history of the state”.
The project included 31 initiatives focused on environmental control and management, in addition to operational modernization of the pulp industry. “One of the highlights of this project is the shutdown of our coal-fired boiler. Until last year, it was still powered by coal. With this elimination, we reduced carbon emissions by 60%,” he concluded.
CMPC is a Chilean group controlled by the Matte family and created on March 12, 1920. Its origins stem from the merger of the paper companies Ebbinghaus, Haensel & Cía and Comunidad Fábrica de Cartón Maipú.
The group is one of the leading forestry companies in Latin America and is present in more than 50 countries on five continents. With more than 25 factories, it has approximately 8,000 employees operating in five business areas.
