Klinger highlights investments to recover waterway infrastructure

President of Portos RS detailed the work focused on dredging the waterways and access channel to the Port of Rio Grande
The CEO of Portos RS, Cristiano Klinger, highlighted the Port Authority's work in restoring the state's waterway infrastructure after the climate tragedy that completed one year last week. Currently undergoing dredging work, the project is part of the state's reconstruction with the aim of restoring depth for maritime activities in the waterways and in the access channel to the state's main port, Rio Grande.
During his speech at the solemn session of Sul Export, on Monday (28), at the headquarters of the Federation of Industries of Rio Grande do Sul (Fiergs), in Porto Alegre, he highlighted the work of Portos RS and the State Government in making viable and being able to allocate investments and resources aimed at the recovery of the state's infrastructure.
“Considering the need to be able to direct our resources well, we are willing to undertake this reconstruction, and the examples of everything we have been through to be able to carry out the actions. When we look at the investments we need, and when we talk about dredging, which are the main investments of the Port Authority, it is important to look at all of this and think about or make the best decisions to make this more agile,” he commented.

Before the floods that hit the state last year, Portos RS had just completed a dredging campaign that established new depths and a new operational draft for the Port of Rio Grande. Klinger commented on the steps that led to the new works that are currently underway.
“We finished a dredging project in February 2024, with R$100 million, but then in May the flooding started. We looked at the problem and thought about how to solve it, and in a discussion with the terminals, with the Pilotage, with the Harbor Master's Office, we needed to start dredging all of this again. And within the program, of this entire effort, just in port activity, looking at the State Recovery Fund, we presented a R$731 million recovery project. The works that are happening started on the waterway, and will continue both on the waterways and on the access channel to the Rio Grande,” he commented.

On May 2nd, Portos RS will complete three years of activities as a public company. The president of the Port Authority highlighted the company's performance in controlling public complexes in Rio Grande do Sul.
“If you compare the last ten years as an autarchy, we invested around R$30 million with our own resources. At Portos RS, we are talking about May 2022 until now, as a public company, we have invested more than R$450 million with our own resources. We are investing around R$100 million each year in dredging,” he said.
