Suape celebrates 47 years with investments and a focus on energy transition.

Suape celebrates 47 years with investments and a focus on energy transition.

Over the next three years, the state-owned port company plans to invest R$ 1.3 billion in infrastructure.

Pernambuco celebrates, this Friday (7), the 47th anniversary of the Suape Industrial Port Complex, one of the main vectors of economic development in the Northeast and a national reference in integrated logistics. Born in the 1970s, the complex has consolidated itself as one of the most important port and industrial platforms in the country, combining innovation, sustainability and continuous expansion. For the next three years, R$ 1.3 billion will be invested in infrastructure works with the state-owned port company's own resources, reinforcing Suape's strategic role in the Brazilian economy.

Among the planned projects, the construction of Piers 6 and 7 stands out, expanding operational capacity and meeting new demands from the sector. National leadership in the handling of liquid bulk cargo will be strengthened with the modernization of the piers dedicated to this segment. The expansion also prepares the port to meet the increased production of the Abreu e Lima Refinery, owned by Petrobras, the largest industry located in the complex and currently undergoing expansion.

The CEO of Suape, Armando Monteiro Bisneto, emphasizes that the complex has exceeded the expectations of its creators and maintains a steady pace of growth. "We are already the sixth largest public port in Brazil, we have 90 companies installed, 12 development hubs, and we boost the job market with more than 30,000 direct and indirect jobs," he points out.

Armando Bisneto further emphasizes that Suape is preparing to consolidate itself as a clean energy base, with multi-billion dollar projects already attracting major national and international investors. “Governor Raquel Lyra has been strongly advocating for the development of the complex. In a recent international mission, she intensified efforts with strategic investors to consolidate Suape as an energy transition hub,” points out the manager of the port industrial complex.

Among the projects that symbolize this new phase is Brazil's first e-methanol plant, by the Danish company European Energy, which will invest R$ 2 billion in a 10-hectare area within the complex. The project is expected to generate 1,500 direct and indirect jobs and begin operations in 2028. Another industry, from GoVerde Holding, has already confirmed a similar-sized and investment-driven installation. In partnership with Senai Pernambuco, Suape also houses Senai Park, an innovation and technology center inaugurated in October of this year, which received R$ 100 million and plans to attract another R$ 200 million in new projects.

SUSTAINABILITY

Suape is also advancing in port sustainability, with the construction of Brazil's first 100% electric cargo and container terminal, under the responsibility of APM Terminals, a subsidiary of Maersk. The multi-billion dollar investment of R$ 2.2 billion will expand the complex's international routes and connections. The pharmaceutical hub is gaining strength with the expansion of Aché Industry (R$ 267 million) and the arrival of Blau Farmacêutica – an investment of R$ 1 billion and the creation of 1,400 jobs – in addition to progress in the creation of the Export Processing Zone (ZPE), which will open new commercial opportunities, including for the agribusiness sector.

DREDGING

Another important milestone is the dredging of the inner channel and turning basin, a project costing R$ 217 million — R$ 117 million from the Government of Pernambuco and R$ 100 million from the Ministry of Ports and Airports, via PAC 3. The intervention will make the port capable of receiving large vessels, such as Suezmax tankers and New Panamax container ships, 366 meters long, with a depth of 16.2 meters.

With the approval of the external channel by the Brazilian Navy, which certifies a depth of 20 meters, Suape reinforces its infrastructure and reaffirms its commitment to the future. At 47 years old, the complex celebrates achievements and prepares to continue growing with innovation, sustainability, and development for Pernambuco and Brazil.
