August 2025 electricity production data announced

August 2025 electricity production data announced
Energy News

According to data from the Energy Markets Operation Inc. (EPİAŞ) Transparency Platform, the share of wind and solar in electricity generation increased in August 2025, offsetting the decline in hydropower. Thus, while increasing consumption was met, the share of fossil fuels in production decreased.

CONSUMPTION INCREASED, FOSSIL SHARE DECREASED

Electricity consumption increased by 3% in August 2025 compared to the same period last year. However, the share of fossil fuel-fired power plants in total production decreased by 3 percentage points to 57%. The rise in wind and solar power generation played a critical role in this decline.

SUN AND WIND BREAK RECORD

Solar: Its share of total generation increased by 3.2 percentage points compared to the same period last year, reaching 12.3%. This rate was an all-time high for August. This increase was driven by a 27% increase in installed capacity and a 2.7 percentage point increase in the capacity factor.

Wind: Its share of total generation reached a record high of 13% in August 2025. An 11% increase in installed capacity and a 9.5-point increase in capacity factor played a role in this success.

Thus, one-quarter of the electricity produced in August 2025 was met by wind and solar.

HISTORIC DECLINE IN HYDROELECTRICITY

Hydroelectric power generation declined in the summer of 2025 due to drought. In August, hydroelectricity's share fell to 12.8%, the second lowest in eight years. Previously, a low of 19.2% was recorded in March 2025.

SUMMER SEMESTER GENERAL TABLE

Between June and August 2025, wind and solar accounted for 25% of total generation. In other words, a quarter of Türkiye's electricity was generated from renewable sources throughout the summer.

The summer of 2025 revealed that wind and solar power play a critical role in electricity generation in Türkiye, while dependence on fossil fuels is gradually decreasing.
