Insulation is One of the Most Effective Methods for Reducing Risk in Natural Disasters

Ozan Turan , Vice Chairman of the Board of ODE Insulation , emphasized that insulation applications are the most effective way to ensure building safety against natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and fires. According to Turan , thermal, water, sound, and fire insulation implemented with the right materials and techniques not only increases energy efficiency but also contributes to public safety by reducing disaster risks.

ODE Insulation Board Vice Chairman Ozan Turan stated that waterproofing applications are particularly critical for disaster safety, and made the following statement:

Insulation contributes to both individual and social safety by reducing the damage caused by natural disasters. Waterproofing, in particular, is crucial for protecting the structural systems of buildings. When waterproofing is incomplete or incorrectly applied, reinforcement corrosion begins, significantly reducing the building's load-bearing capacity over time. However, proper waterproofing helps maintain the stability of buildings during and after earthquakes, protecting life and property in the long term.

Turan pointed out that insulation is a necessity not only for energy efficiency but also for disaster safety .

Ozan Turan touched upon the increase in disasters due to climate change and pointed out that insulation is a preventative tool in this regard:

The root cause of climate-related disasters like floods and extreme heat waves is emissions from human activities. Energy efficiency is one of the most effective steps in preventing this crisis. By reducing energy consumption, insulation not only reduces a building's carbon footprint but also contributes to mitigating the factors that trigger climate change. In this respect, insulation is not only a post-disaster protection strategy but also a component of a pre-disaster risk reduction strategy.
