Türkiye's nuclear energy roadmap and innovative applications of nuclear technology in the country were introduced at the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
The 69th General Conference of the IAEA, held in Vienna, the capital of Austria, where the IAEA headquarters are located, continues.
As part of the conference, many countries are holding events where they present their activities in the field of nuclear energy.
Two events were held here to introduce Türkiye's nuclear energy roadmap, its activities in this field, and various and innovative applications of nuclear technology.
The events were attended by Ambassador Levent Eler, Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the United Nations (UN) Vienna Office; Ambassador at the Permanent Representative of Türkiye to the UN Vienna Office Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kibaroğlu; Deputy Director General of Nuclear Energy and International Projects at the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources Salih Sarı; President of the Turkish Energy, Nuclear and Mining Research Council (TENMAK) Abdullah Buğrahan Karaveli, as well as representatives of organizations operating in this field.
At the event held before noon, many issues were discussed, from Türkiye's nuclear history to the status of current nuclear energy projects.
The activities of the Turkish Nuclear Energy Corporation (TÜNAŞ) and the Nuclear Regulatory Authority (NDK) were also discussed at the event, and it was noted that Türkiye's nuclear journey has entered a new and decisive phase with small modular reactors (SMR).
It was emphasized that Türkiye aims to produce clean, safe, and affordable nuclear energy and is determined to work in close cooperation with other institutions, especially the IAEA, to ensure that its nuclear energy program becomes the best model in the fields of safety, security, and sustainability.
It was also stated that Türkiye wants to contribute to global climate goals.
In the afternoon event, various and innovative applications of nuclear technology in Türkiye were discussed.
The event emphasized Türkiye's capacity to benefit from nuclear developments in areas beyond traditional electricity generation, and featured examples of Türkiye's use of nuclear energy in various areas such as healthcare, agriculture, and industry.
