Bulgaria and the US signed a nuclear agreement

Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov and US Energy Secretary Chris Wright signed a joint statement to reinforce cooperation on the development and implementation of innovative civil nuclear technologies, the Bulgarian ministry announced.
Bulgaria will use US expertise for a feasibility study to evaluate sites for small modular reactors. The United States Trade and Development Agency has already announced its readiness to provide funding for a review of various small modular reactor technologies to help identify those that are most suitable for the conditions in Bulgaria. The statement builds on the strong Bulgaria-US partnership, positioning Bulgaria as a leader in clean energy in Southeastern Europe, according to the Bulgarian ministry.
“Nuclear energy plays a key role in achieving Europe-wide goals for energy security and competitiveness,” said Energy Minister Zhecho Stankov during the signing of the document. “With the support of our US partners, Bulgaria will have the opportunity to enhance its decades of experience in safely operating nuclear facilities with cutting-edge technologies, reinforcing its leadership in producing emission-free, clean and affordable energy for Southeast Europe.”
The document was signed within the framework of the General Conference of the International Atomic Energy Agency in Vienna, Austria.
