Lithuania to launch a tender for new electricity storage facilities

The Lithuanian Ministry of Energy is seeking feedback on the draft funding conditions for a high-capacity electricity storage facility call, set for October 2025, with nearly 45 million euros in funding, the Ministry stated.
The call will support new storage projects and those not funded under the prior 102 million euro call or listed in its reserve. Applicants on the reserve list must contact the Environmental Project Management Agency to withdraw their earlier application before submitting a new one.
The funding will target facilities with at least 15 megawatts (MW) generation capacity and up to 300 megawatt-hours (MWh) storage, offering subsidies covering up to 30 per cent of eligible costs, with a maximum of 100,000 euros/MWh. Comments and proposals on the draft conditions are welcome until September 29. Lithuania’s aim is to achieve 1.5 gigawatts (GW) of storage capacity and a total energy storage volume of 4.4 gigawatt-hours (GWh) by 2028.

“High-capacity electricity storage facilities are a vital part of our rapidly developing energy system, ensuring balance between production and consumption, enhancing system reliability, and strengthening Lithuania’s energy independence,” said Žygimantas Vaičiūnas, Acting Minister of Energy. “We encourage market participants to actively submit proposals on the call’s conditions to maximise the effectiveness of these investments for both the energy sector and all consumers in the country.”
