Coal & mines minister G. Kishan Reddy to deliver ministerial address at ET Energy Leadership Summit
These numbers signal strong momentum in domestic coal production and supply chain tightening.New Delhi: Union minister for coal & mines G. Kishan Reddy will deliver the ministerial address at the ET Energy Leadership Summit & Awards 2025 on September 24 in New Delhi. His address is expected to lay out India’s strategy for coal production, mining reforms, and the role of critical minerals in bolstering energy security. In FY 2024-25, India crossed a landmark threshold, producing 1,047.57 million tonnes (MT) of coal, up nearly 5 per cent from 997.83 MT in FY 2023-24. Coal dispatches also rose to 1,024.99 MT, a growth of about 5.34 per cent over the previous year. Particularly remarkable was the performance of captive and commercial coal mines, whose combined output surged to 190.95 MT, reflecting nearly 30 per cent growth from around 147.12 MT the year before. These numbers signal strong momentum in domestic coal production and supply chain tightening. The ministerial address will likely focus on how to sustain this growth while addressing challenges in land acquisition, environmental clearances, and transport networks. Another highlight expected is policy support for modernizing mining operations, boosting exploration for critical minerals—particularly rare earths, lithium, cobalt—and opening up more auctions with private participation.Business leaders will be paying close attention to announcements on cost incentives, easing of regulatory burdens, and clarity on timelines for mining of critical minerals. For sectors relying on coal—steel, cement, power—the minister’s remarks could hint at how the government plans to ensure supply reliability even as demand rises. At the summit, panels will examine energy security, the economics of coal mining, innovation in extraction technologies, and strategies for integrating coal sector growth with environmental sustainability. The ET Energy Leadership Awards 2025 will cap off the event, honouring companies making strides in coal production, mining innovation, and resource strategy.
