Campina Grande will have a 15 km VLT and works scheduled for August

Announced by Renan Filho, the project involves an investment of R$100 million and should benefit up to 200,000 people.
Campina Grande, the second-largest city in Paraíba, will receive its first Light Rail Vehicle (LRV). The project was announced this Friday (11) by the Minister of Transportation, Renan Filho, during a visit to the municipality. The proposal calls for the requalification of 15 kilometers of existing railway line, connecting 11 neighborhoods with an investment of R$100 million.
According to the Ministry's expectations, construction is expected to begin in August. The section will connect Araxá Station, near the Paraíba Social Assistance Foundation (FAP), to the Aluízio Campos neighborhood, passing through residential, educational, and commercial areas.
The minister described the announcement as "a historic day for Campina Grande." "It's a long-held dream. People will be able to leave the end of the VLT line and travel along a route that passes through the city center, the soccer stadium, educational and healthcare facilities, as well as commercial areas such as supermarkets and workplaces. This investment ensures a better quality of life for the population," he stated.
Tufi Daher, CEO of Transnordestina Logística, which is responsible for the project, said that the VLT line will be completely remodeled within 12 months at the most. "This is the commitment of our company and the city government."
The section is part of the old Northeast railway network, granted to Transnordestina in 1998 and deactivated since 2011. Now, it will be reused exclusively for passenger transport.
The new railway line is expected to serve up to 200,000 people, connecting areas from the far south to the north of the city. This is the second VLT announced by the Ministry of Transportation in the Northeast in less than a week. The first was in Arapiraca, Alagoas, and was unveiled last Monday (8).
BR-230 duplication is inspected
During his visit to the city, Renan Filho also inspected the BR-230 widening works in the Campina Grande metropolitan region, considered one of the main mobility interventions in the state.
According to the minister, improvements are progressing more quickly following the resumption of federal investments. "We've created the necessary conditions to complete such important projects for urban mobility in a city of this size. We expect to deliver a considerable stretch of the widening route by next summer, which will be essential for the project's continuity."
The viaduct connecting BR-230 to BR-104 has already had part of its structure reopened to traffic. In total, the work involved will cost R$165 million.
