DNIT begins dredging a section of the Madeira River on BR-230/AM

Service in Humaitá guarantees the operation of the ferry and enables the transportation of supplies for the recovery of the highway affected by flooding
The stretch of the Madeira River that crosses BR-230 in the municipality of Humaitá, Amazonas, began dredging this week by the National Department of Transportation Infrastructure (DNIT). The intervention ensures the continuity of the ferry crossing between Amazonas and Pará and meets the agency's annual maintenance schedule.
The service transports rocks and concrete used in emergency repair work on BR-230, which has been hit by severe flooding. According to the National Department of Transportation (DNIT), approximately 200,000 cubic meters of sediment must be removed during this dredging phase.
According to DNIT, construction began immediately after the canal project was handed over to the contracted company, with the equipment already in place. Half of the funds allocated for the project have already been committed, with the remainder awaiting release.
In parallel, dredging of the Madeira River Waterway is scheduled to take place between August and October, removing approximately 1.5 million cubic meters of sediment. The mobilization order has already been issued, but the start of the work depends on the transfer of funds from the Ministry of Ports and Airports.
