Committee will monitor the socio-environmental impacts of the tunnel project

Committee will monitor the socio-environmental impacts of the tunnel project

The group brings together several national entities and will play the role of mediating the project's impacts.

The Port Authority of Santos (APS) published, this Tuesday (16), the Ordinance for the installation of the Permanent Regional Committee for Monitoring Environmental Impacts, with the purpose of monitoring, evaluating and proposing measures related to the socio-environmental impacts resulting from the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel project.

According to APS President Anderson Pomini, the Committee will support the surrounding communities throughout the construction process: "Until the tunnel is completed and operational, APS, along with other agencies, will monitor the impact of the project on the lives of residents and other people passing through the Port of Santos," he states.

As the Port Authority, it has the prerogative to ensure the smooth running of the Port of Santos, prioritizing the port-city relationship. The ordinance stipulates that the Committee must include participation from institutions ranging from government agencies to civil society organizations, as well as the company that will build the tunnel.

The Committee's objective is, among others, to monitor and track all events related to the Santos-Guarujá Tunnel project, with emphasis on those of a socio-environmental nature, promoting integration between the Port and cities. It will have a set of rules and must meet at least every two months to assess the progress of the tunnel's implementation.
