Suape and the Pernambuco government sign a partnership to expand exports

Initiative creates task force to expand exports and strengthen the competitiveness of agribusiness in the state

The Port of Suape and the Pernambuco Secretariat of Agrarian Development, Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries announced the creation of the Pact for Agro, a task force focused on integrating the production sector with port logistics. The goal is to remove bottlenecks, expand operations, and consolidate the state as an export hub for fruit, meat, and other agricultural products.

For Suape's CEO, Armando Monteiro Bisneto, the joint effort will be enhanced by the launch of APM Terminals Suape's private container terminal, scheduled for the second half of 2026. The R$1.6 billion investment will create the first 100% electric terminal in Latin America. "The facility will bring cutting-edge technology and a focus on sustainability, increasing the port complex's competitiveness in Brazil and globally," he stated.

The executive also said that the new terminal should absorb approximately 35% of Suape's current throughput, creating more competition and price balance. The project includes cold storage and modern facilities for refrigerated cargo, specifically geared towards agribusiness. "The APM terminal is expected to represent a structural change in Pernambuco's logistics environment. In addition to opening up space for new investments and attracting more operators, it should increase the efficiency of agricultural and industrial production flow, strengthening Suape's position as one of the country's main port hubs."

In addition to the APM terminal, Suape is also advancing on its own projects, such as the construction of Piers 6 and 7, which total R$600 million in investments, and the future Solid Bulk Terminal, designed to handle up to 770,000 tons per year.

According to Development Secretary Cícero Moraes, the move marks a new stage in the relationship between the countryside and the port. "We're kicking off something permanent that will have an impact on the development of our state. This gesture signals the government's willingness to unlock what needs to be unlocked. We'll bring everyone to the table so we can implement a concrete action plan with producers, technicians, exporters, and the Suape board, thus ensuring that Pernambuco assumes a leading role in agribusiness on the international stage as well," he stated.

The secretary also emphasized that the initiative seeks to balance emergency solutions with medium- and long-term measures. "The Pact for Agriculture demonstrates that the state is looking to the future responsibly. With the coordination between the government, the production sector, and port logistics, Pernambuco is expected to advance its agricultural competitiveness and expand its presence in national and international markets."
