Operation frees Chinese ship from the Port of Santos

The ship was moved to anchorage no. 6, where it is possible to anchor safely and await inspection.
The bulk carrier Shandong Xin Ze, which ran aground at the entrance to the Santos Port channel (SP) on the 14th, was removed on the morning of this Wednesday (17) and taken to anchorage no. 6, a specific location where vessels can anchor safely while awaiting evaluation.
According to the Santos Port Authority (APS), at 11 am the preliminary grounding plan was implemented, authorized by the São Paulo Port Authority (CPSP), and monitored by the company.
According to APS, the operation involved four tugboats from AWS, as well as the Svitzer tugboats. The Chinese bulk carrier was safely brought to anchorage, where it will undergo technical inspections by the Brazilian Navy to assess its structural and navigational conditions.
APS stressed that the refloating operation did not cause any type of leak or pollution to the marine environment.
Incident
The grounding occurred last Sunday (14), when the vessel was carrying out a maneuver to enter the Santos port complex.
The incident occurred with the Shandong Xin Ze, a bulk carrier owned by the Chinese company Shandong Shipping Corporation. According to initial information obtained by the São Paulo Port Authority (CPSP), the vessel reportedly lost propulsion during the entry maneuver.
APS said the ship was scheduled to dock at Termag, on the left bank, for fertilizer unloading operations, which has not yet occurred.
