Lagoa beaches now fly the Blue Flag and Accessible Beach Flag

On June 17th, the municipality of Lagoa held the official ceremony to raise the Blue Flag and “Accessible Beach, Beach for All” at Praia do Vale Olival, awards that attest to the quality and accessibility of the municipality's beaches, symbolically marking the start of the 2025 bathing season.

In addition to Praia do Vale Olival, the beaches of Sra. da Rocha, Carvoeiro, Vale Centeanes, Caneiros and Praia Grande (Ferragudo) were awarded the Blue Flag, a symbol of environmental quality, safety, sustainable management and awareness, all of which were recognized by ABAAE – Blue Flag Association for the Environment and Education .

The beaches of Sra. da Rocha and Carvoeiro also received the distinction “Accessible Beach, Beach for All”, for having suitable conditions for the mobility and comfort of people with disabilities or limited mobility, reinforcing the commitment of the municipality of Lagoa to inclusion and universal accessibility.

Throughout the morning, representatives of partner entities, such as the Portuguese Environment Agency / ARH Algarve, the National Maritime Authority / Port Authority of Portimão, the Algarve Regional Health Administration, the Algarve Tourism Region and INR – National Institute for Rehabilitation, joined the local authority in the symbolic raising of flags on several beaches.

At 10:15 am, the puppet show “Plastikaos: The Great Stir” took place at Praia da Sra. da Rocha, which kicked off the program of environmental awareness actions promoted on Blue Flag beaches throughout the bathing season.

The raising of the European Blue flag and the “Accessible Beach, Beach for All” flag on the beaches of the municipality of Lagoa marked the beginning of the bathing season.

“The awarding of these flags is a clear sign of the ongoing work that the municipality of Lagoa has been doing to enhance its natural heritage, promote environmental sustainability and create welcoming conditions for everyone. It is a source of pride to see the excellence of our beaches recognised year after year, as they continue to be a reference in the region and the country”, says Luís Encarnação, Mayor of Lagoa .

The municipality of Lagoa “reaffirms its commitment to environmental quality, safety, accessibility and well-being of all those who choose the municipality’s beaches to enjoy the summer months”, according to the local authority.
