Sardine fishing with seine nets banned in the Algarve between Saturday and Monday

The period of prohibition of catching sardines applies «in the area of ​​jurisdiction of the captaincies of the reconnaissance ports of Olhãopesca and Barlapescas, from 6:00 pm on Saturday (June 21) to 6:00 pm on Monday (June 23) – captaincies of Olhão, Faro Tavira, Vila Real de Santo António, Lagos and Portimão», reads the document.

The art of seine fishing uses a long, high wall of netting thrown out to surround the fish, in this case sardines, from the sides and also from below, reducing their ability to escape.
