8.7 Billion Cubic Meters of Natural Gas Agreement with 3 Energy Giants

The Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources continues to take steps to diversify its supply portfolio to ensure energy supply security. Three important agreements were signed in Italy, aligning with its goal of becoming a central country for natural gas. Türkiye's national company, BOTAŞ, signed separate agreements with global giants BP, ENI, and Shell. Through these three-year agreements, BOTAŞ will supply a total of 8.7 billion cubic meters of natural gas. Hungarian and Libyan MinistersEnergy and Natural Resources Minister Alparslan Bayraktar held meetings with numerous ministers and senior executives from global companies at Gastech 2025, held in Milan, Italy this year. Bayraktar also met with Hungarian Foreign and Trade Minister Peter Szijjarto and Libyan Oil and Gas Minister Khalifa Rajab Abdulsadek.
LNG Agreement with BPAt Gastech, considered the world's largest energy gathering, an LNG agreement covering the years 2026-2028 was signed between BOTAŞ and BP. Minister Bayraktar was also present at the signing ceremony, which was also attended by BP Global LNG Vice President Jerome Milongo . According to the agreement, BOTAŞ will supply a total of 4.8 billion cubic meters of natural gas from BP. Minister Bayraktar shared the following about the agreement on social media: "This collaboration is particularly important for ensuring our supply security during the winter months, increasing resource diversity, and strengthening commercial flexibility."
Contract with ENIAs part of Gastech, a natural gas supply agreement covering the years 2026-2028 was signed between Italian ENI, one of the world's largest oil and natural gas companies, and BOTAŞ. Minister Bayraktar and ENI CEO Claudio Descalzi also attended the ceremony. Under this agreement, ENI will ship a total of 1.5 billion cubic meters of LNG cargo to BOTAŞ over three years. Regarding this agreement , Minister Bayraktar said, " With the purchase of a total of 1.5 billion cubic meters of LNG, we will add flexibility to our seasonal supply-demand balance."
Another Agreement with ShellFollowing this agreement, Minister Bayraktar met with Tom Summers, President of LNG, and Cederic Cremers, President of Shell Integrated Gas, both executives at global giant Shell. Following these agreements, it was agreed that BOTAŞ will engage in LNG trade with Shell between 2026 and 2028. Shell will supply a total of 2.4 billion cubic meters of natural gas to BOTAŞ over three years. Minister Bayraktar shared the following regarding the meeting: “ During our meeting, we made comprehensive assessments of BOTAŞ’s natural gas supply strategy, potential collaborations for exploration and production activities in our country, particularly in the Black Sea region, and joint energy ventures in third countries. Following our meeting, we signed a three-year agreement between BOTAŞ and Shell, covering the purchase of a total of 2.4 billion cubic meters of LNG.”
Strategic Cooperation with OmanMinister Bayraktar, who visited Oman in July, signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation. As part of this agreement, he signed the Strategic Cooperation Agreement with BOTAŞ (BOTAŞ) for OMAN LNG in Milan. Minister Bayraktar and OMAN LNG CEO Hamed Al Naamany attended the signing ceremony. Minister Bayraktar commented on the agreement: “The Strategic Cooperation Agreement aims to increase LNG production capacity in Oman, develop collaborations with FSRUs and LNG carriers, and evaluate additional LNG purchasing options. This step is a concrete reflection of the Memorandum of Understanding on Energy Cooperation we signed in Oman in July.”
China's LargestFollowing this meeting, Bayraktar attended the ceremony marking the signing of a memorandum of understanding between Petrochina, China's largest oil and natural gas company, and BOTAŞ. PCI Chairman Wu Junli was also present at the ceremony. This comprehensive agreement is expected to strengthen BOTAŞ's presence in the global LNG arena.
Meetings with Large CompaniesAs part of his contacts in Italy, Minister Bayraktar held a bilateral meeting with Baker Hughes CEO Lorenzo Simonelli. Following the meeting, an agreement was signed between BOTAŞ and Baker Hughes. Potential collaboration opportunities related to LNG trade were also discussed during a meeting with Sarah Bairstow, President of the Woodside Louisiana LNG Project.
