Joby Aviation prepares to launch electric flying taxi service in Dubai

Joby Aviation , a US-based manufacturer of electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) vehicles, has delivered its first production vehicle to Dubai, where it plans to launch a commercial air taxi service in 2026.

The company said it will launch air taxi operations at four locations in Dubai next year. Joby Aviation also became the first eVTOL manufacturer to deliver more than one production vehicle. It previously delivered a production vehicle to the U.S. Air Force.

The company’s six-propeller air taxi, powered by Toyota engines, can carry a total of five passengers, including the pilot. The vehicle can reach a maximum speed of 321 kilometers per hour and offers a range of 241 kilometers on a single charge.

Joby Aviation plans to make the vehicle available in the UK, US, UAE, South Korea, Japan, India and Australia.
