JBS Terminais now fully operates the Port of Itajaí

Unification of operational areas and doubling of berthing capacity mark new phase of terminal in SC

With the official unification of the areas, JBS Terminais took over, this Friday (4/7), the operation of all berths and available areas in the public terminal of the Port of Itajaí (SC). The measure, authorized by the Ministry of Ports and Airports after deliberation by the National Waterway Transportation Agency (Antaq), consolidates the operational density under the responsibility of the company, which operates under a temporary lease agreement.

In practice, according to the company, the change increases the efficiency of port operations, improves predictability for customers and brings more stability and opportunities for port workers. The unprecedented increase in density at the port also eliminates logistical bottlenecks and speeds up the flow of cargo.

The recent doubling of berthing capacity, now with four operational berths, and the expansion of the backport area allow the terminal to receive up to three large vessels simultaneously. The improvements increase competitiveness, reduce urban impacts and strengthen the local and national logistics chain.

According to a technical note from the Ministry of Ports and Airports, “the expansion is in line with the modeling currently underway for the long-term bidding process for the terminal, which provides for the full lease of the operational area to a single operator. The consolidation of the temporary contract will allow for the prior testing of this model, validating its operational viability, the synergy between activities and the suitability of the infrastructure. This minimizes the risk of failures in future implementation, providing greater security to the final bidding process.”

Recognized as the second largest port complex in terms of container movement in Brazil and a leader in the export of refrigerated cargo, the Itajaí terminal seeks to regain its leading role with centralized operations.

“In a short period of time, we have managed to restore Itajaí to its leading position as an efficient and competitive terminal. By expanding the areas, we are reinforcing our commitment to the economic development of Itajaí, Santa Catarina and Brazil. We are increasing logistical efficiency, attracting new routes and cargo, which will boost the regional and national economy,” says Aristides Russi Junior, CEO of JBS Terminais.
