Maceió Passenger Terminal to be modernized to expand tourism

The facility is in the second block of the government's auction portfolio; investments total R$3.75 million
The Maritime Passenger Terminal (TMP) in Maceió, Alagoas, is in the second block of the auction portfolio selected by the Ministry of Ports and Airports (MPor) for 2025. With estimated investments of more than R$1.22 billion, this phase includes, in addition to the port of the capital of Alagoas, the ports of Rio de Janeiro and Paranaguá.
The Port of Maceió is one of the main cruise ship reception points in the Northeast region, and with the auction scheduled for October 22, it will begin a new phase of modernization and expansion, with an estimated investment of R$3.75 million over a 25-year contract. The initiative aims to transform the terminal into a strategic hub for national maritime tourism, strengthening the local economy and improving the passenger experience.
According to the Minister of Ports and Airports, Silvio Costa Filho, the modernization of the Maceió TMP is part of a national strategy to revitalize passenger terminals and integrate maritime tourism into the local economy. "The initiative will boost the creation of direct and indirect jobs, boost the hotel and retail sectors, and consolidate Maceió as a benchmark in port infrastructure," he stated.
Located in one of the country's most tourist-friendly capitals, the Port of Maceió handles over 100,000 passengers per season. With the planned construction and improvements, the expectation is a gradual expansion of its service capacity, currently limited to 612 passengers per day, in addition to attracting new routes and shipping lines.
With a total area of 5,678.23 square meters, the TMP Maceió modernization project includes several structural and operational improvements. The project includes the construction of a new parking lot with 112 spaces, paving, and a drainage system in an area of 3,050 square meters. The concessionaire will also acquire new furniture and support equipment, including chairs, tables, sofas, and passenger and baggage control systems.
New safety and fire-fighting equipment will also be installed, which will be included in the set of assets reversible to the government at the end of the concession, ensuring quality and comfort standards compatible with the main international cruise destinations.
