Vila do Bispo now flies Blue Flags, Gold Quality and Accessible Beach

On Thursday, July 3, the municipality of Vila do Bispo hoisted the Blue Flag, “Gold Quality” Flag and Accessible Beach awards in its bathing areas.
The ceremony was attended by members of the City Council's executive, representatives of the Portuguese Environment Agency - ARH Algarve, the Maritime Authority, the Algarve ULS, the Vila do Bispo Volunteer Firefighters, Quercus - National Association for Nature Conservation, the presidents of the municipality's Parish Councils, the president of the Algarve Tourism Region and lifeguards.
Burgau, Cabanas Velhas, Castelejo, Cordoama, Ingrina, Mareta, Martinhal, Salema, Tonel and Zavial were the beaches awarded the Blue Flag, a symbol of quality and excellence, attributed by ABAAE – Blue Flag Association for the Environment and Education .
The awarding of this distinction is based on demanding criteria such as water quality, environmental information and education, environmental and equipment management, safety and services, among others.
These 10 beaches, in addition to Barranco, Beliche, Boca do Rio and Furnas beaches, also received the “Golden Quality Beach 2025” Award, a distinction awarded for the quality of their bathing water.
This award, given by Quercus – National Association for Nature Conservation , annually distinguishes the quality of bathing water on Portuguese beaches, taking exclusively into account the analyses carried out in the laboratories of the different Regional Hydrographic Administrations.
The “Accessible Beach – Beach for Everyone!” flag was also hoisted on Salema beach, an award given by the INR – National Institute for Rehabilitation, which distinguishes bathing areas that offer accessibility conditions and services for people with reduced mobility.
The event was attended by young people from the BBB Junior Holiday Camp promoted by the Budens Parish Council.
