China's coal imports fell by 11 percent in the first half

China's coal imports for June 2025 fell to their lowest monthly level in more than two years as miners in the country increased domestic coal production to replace lower-quality coal imports, according to data released by the General Administration of Customs.
26% DECLINE ON AN ANNUAL BASIS
June 2025 coal imports totaled 33.04 million metric tons, the lowest figure since February 2023, and fell 26% compared to June 2025. This figure also represents an 8% decrease compared to May.
IMPORTS DECREASED BY 11% IN THE FIRST HALF In the first half of the current year, China's coal imports decreased by 11% on an annual scale to 221.7 million tons.
COAL PRODUCTION INCREASED 6%
Meanwhile, China's coal production increased by 6% in scale from January to May compared to the same period in the previous year.
