Life advocates gathered in Samsun: We will not allow you to poison our nature!

Citizens reacted to the claim that the Canadian Centerra Mining company applied for a license to conduct gold, copper, zinc, silver and lead exploration activities on Dürtmen Mountain in Samsun .
Citizens gathered in the Kızlan Neighborhood of the Alaçam district and emphasized that mining activities in the region threaten agriculture, animal husbandry and natural life.
"WE ARE THE ONE WHO WILL STOP THIS PROJECT"Speaking on behalf of the Dürtmen Homeland Platform, Hasan Uslu said, “Permission has been granted by the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources. Based on this permission, a Canadian company could arrive at any time. Our duty is to prevent this. We will not allow mining here. No institution in Alaçam allows mining; know this. Pools are being created for cyanide processes. Cyanide pools require water, and that water is being drawn deep into the ground. For example, excavations on Dürtmen Hill will reach deep underground and affect all our water resources. This will leave us with no livestock, no agriculture, no forests, and no chance of survival. This will affect not only our region, but also Yakakent, parts of Bafra, and Vezirköprü. Therefore, we are the ones who will stop it.”
Hasan Arslan, President of the Association for Combating Climate Change and Drought, said, "We want Dürtmen Mountain to be protected from gold poisoning. We oppose excavations and the risk to our nation's health. Together with our association members, we stand against this initiative."
MINE IS NOT MORE VALUABLE THAN LIFEŞükrü Toklu, a 74-year-old resident of Umutlu neighborhood, said, "I was born and raised in this land. We've tasted the cold of this country; now we have to eat poison as well? It's not our right to eat this country's poison. The authorities need to find a solution. You see moose and other wild animals along the roads; as humans, they should take responsibility for this."
Sadık Dinç, a 75-year-old resident of Kızlan Village, said, "We have no other homeland where we can breathe. If the state values mining over human life, we will never allow it. Human life is above all else in the world. That's why we will not allow this with our families and children. We will fight to the death; we will fight as hard as we can. Regardless of political views, we will not allow anything that threatens human life."
